From a magnificent view of the Milky Way rising above a volcano in the southern Indian Ocean to the enchanting glow of zodiacal light over the coast of Oregon. Selected from about 1000 entries taken in 55 countries during 2013-2014, the winners of the 5th Earth & Sky Photo Contest highlight the natural beauty of night sky and its growing battle with light pollution. Organized since 2009 by international program The World at Night (TWAN) the contest is a collaboration with outreach and education group of the National Optical Astronomy Observatory and the Global Astronomy Month (a program of Astronomers Without Borders). The contest entries are nightscape images -showing night sky and landscape- with special attention to astronomical perspectives and celestial phenomena. This is also known as landscape astrophotography and referred as TWAN-style.
